Marvel Studios has announced that production is under way on their female-led 2019 title, Captain Marvel. In a press release sent out today, Marvel explains that the film will be set in the 1990s.
“Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The major announcements hidden within the press release are three new cast members who will be reprising roles from other MCU titles. Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace both return from Guardians of the Galaxy, in which they both played powerful Kree characters — Korath the Pursuer and Ronan the Accuser. It will be interesting to hear these character’s backstories and learn what they were up to while Peter Quill was still a young scavenger with Yondu’s crew.
Clark Gregg will also be returning to the movie side of the MCU to get involved with this 90’s Kree Invasion. Since the film is set prior to the character’s death during The Avengers, Gregg can finally reprise his popular role of Agent Coulson on the big screen. Of course, we know from Agents of SHIELD that Phil Coulson and his team have had their share of Kree adventures:
With these latest additions, the cast is really filling in and becoming one of the most impressive in the MCU! It will be great to see Samuel L Jackson back as Nick Fury to really tie the universe together — and to see Jude Law (Robert Downey Jr’s costar in the Sherlock Holmes franchise) join the MCU. The film stars Academy Award® winner Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) thanks you for your repeat viewings of Marvel’s Black Panther — The Walt Disney Company, which owns Marvel Studios, has announced that it will be donating $1 Million to expand Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s youth STEM programs, “supporting the high-tech skills that were a major theme in the plot of Black Panther and are essential in helping youth succeed.”
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, and is highlighted by the Department of Education as having an inadequate number of few American students pursuing expertise in STEM fields and ultimately a limited pipeline of teachers skilled in these subjects. By helping to expand STEM programs in underserved communities across the United States with a piece of Black Panther’s box office success, Disney has beautifully paralleled a lesson from the film.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America will use this one-time grant to further develop its existing national STEM curriculum, and establish new STEM Centers of Innovation in 12 communities across the country. The curriculum and new centers will serve and inspire kids and teens, with an emphasis in the following communities: Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Chicago, IL; Harlem, NY; Hartford, CT; Memphis, TN; New Orleans, LA; Oakland, CA; Orlando, FL; Philadelphia, PA; Washington, DC; Watts, CA.
